| GWEN FORTNER Biography |
||
Gwen Fortner began
drawing and painting as a child with her artist mother. Inspired to study
further art forms in school, she later opted to marry and begin a life of
traveling, living in foreign countries, having children and of course always
using her art background to create paintings in a variety of mediums. She was
first introduced to the medium of water base clay in a small studio in the
Bahamas, never realizing at that time that one day she would use clay create
her intriguing designs of the American Southwest. Before this was to be a
reality, Gwen spent many years improving her watercolor techniques in the
Caribbean and Southeast Asia, studying with masters in the various countries.
For the past ten years, Gwen has focused her energies on sculpturing in clay to
create terracotta stoneware. The earth between her fingers becomes alive with
images of animals, birds, figures and her favorite subjects of the Southwest.
The union of the artist, earth and fire inspires her to continue to make her
terracotta sculptures where each is an original and one of a kind. |
