| SANDRA LEE Biography |
||
Sandra grew up in rural
Montana where she developed her love and respect for nature, and that love
reflects though her art today. Her life long desire to make her living as art
artist has led her to traveling and living in her motor home full time. In the
remote deserts and canyons she creates her extraordinary sculptures, paintings
and beautiful jewelry designs. "The process of sculpting is like magic to me. I get so involved with the details of each piece, the proportions, scales, wrinkles and paint.... Then. I look down anti suddenly 1 find tills beautiful creature in my hands. I'm always a little surprised and delighted." Lee has studied and handled them extensively. She encourages people to see the beauty of these often misunderstood and feared creatures. "Snakes and lizards have their place in the sacred Circle of Life just as every living thing does. Reptiles prey on insects and rodents and in turn become a food source for many animals, birds and fish. Destroying them harms the delicate balance of nature." Sandra Lee's incredibly realistic reptile sculptures are so life like that she was approached by the BLM and Game & Fish authorities who believed that' she was killing and mounting real reptiles. Each original sculpture is made from polymer clay and hand painted. Outstanding details capture the beauty arid grace of these reptiles. "Almost everyone who sees my sculptures for the first time believes they are real reptiles. A roadrunner actually tried to eat one of my lizards at an Art Show in Death Valley." |
