CURRENT CONDITIONS - Route
178
- This is the route to take from Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley,
Bakersfield etc.
(Short Version) Take Interstate 5 North to
Laval-North exit (aka Wheeler Ridge Rd. or Weedpatch Hwy.) - North to Bear
Mountain Blvd. (blinking red light) - East to Commanche Drive (first stop
sign)- North to 178 (watch RR tracks after crossing 58)- and then East into and
through the canyon. Like bigger highways? Go Interstate 5 to 99 - North to
Bakersfield and the 178 - then go East to the canyon. This route is the most
popular with visitors, its scenic but be careful on 2 lane.
( Lots of
curves and tight lanes till you hit the 4 lane, half-way through the canyon
) Please use the turn outs if you're holding up other vehicles. They'll
thank you for the courtesy.
