JACK W. BROCK
Biography

Jack Brock was born in Tennessee and raised in the artist community of Claremont, California where he was influenced by local artists such as Millard Sheets, Robert Wood, and Phil Dyke. From an early age he enjoyed experimenting with mixed media and won his first award at the age of 14 for greeting card design

After graduating California Polytechnic College in 1964, he held marketing and general management in several major corporations in Canada and the United States. During his corporate career he produced multi-media presentations, brochures and training films.

In 1990 Jack left the corporate world and joined his wife Phyllis in the home based business that she had created, Westview Mountain Designs.

Phyllis' company is still a respected ongoing business designing and manufacturing custom rustic furniture from native woods of Western Canada. Ten years ago, they built their own home and studio in the interior of British Columbia where they continue to explore their own creative interests.

Jack's life long love of fish and fishing lead to his full-time career as a fish carver. Upon seeing his work, the most noted comment is "he captures the spirit of the fish." Jack likes the rustic, natural feel and look of Ponderosa pine for carving his fish. The wood is harvested from standing dead trees that would otherwise go unused. The fins are hand-cut from recycled tin.
